Articulate Storyline 3 Review

Articulate Storyline 3 is a stand-alone e-learning authoring tool for creating interactive courses rapidly. It is supposed to be able to deliver mobile and accessible courses with enhanced interactivity faster responsive multi-device experiences, closed captioning, structure text with table and publish high-performance HTML5 courses. What’s more?

Articulate Storyline 3 is a separated product and has no relationship with Articulate 360 (includes the Storyline 360 with the same features). It is available to buy one-time license at $1398. You may have 30 days trial before making your final decision. Storyline 3 does not have access to Articulate Content Library or online reviewing and commenting system like you have Articulate 360.

However, you still get all necessary tools for creating responsive elearning courses with Storyline 3, included typical course templates, character library and the capability to export the whole project into HTML5 in SCORM and xAPI Tin can.

Storyline 3 provides an intuitive and flexible user interface where you can change from Story View, Slide View, Master Slide or Feedback Master View quickly. The program supports 4 different languages which are Chinese, English, Espanol, Francais, Deutsch.

Storyline 3 offers responsive preview options where you can check how your course looks like on specific devices like laptop, tablet, smartphone or customized size device.

It has various type of interactions, includes some unique types like Dial, Sliders and numerous animations and transitions for polishing your slides.

Creating graded question, survey questions or freeform questions or Question Banks in Storyline 3 is as easy as any other authoring tools you see on the market such as ActivPresenter or iSpring Suite.

Cons

As mentioned in the first paragraph, Storyline 3 cost $1398 per license/ lifetime. This is not an expensive deal compared to what it offers. However, this is not the best price when compared to other similar software that we have reviewed such as ActivePresenter  ($399 per license) or iSpring Suite ($770).

Storyline 3 lacks some key features that elearning professionals may need such as adjusting course layout in real-time, text-to-speech, customize java script, advanced editing videos and audios and so on.
