Snagit is one of the most powerful screen capture and video recording software of TechSmith. It has a number of unique screen capturing features that no one has. Snagit Grab text, Scrolling window capture and its image editor & video recorder are unbeatable in the industry for about 30 years. If you need a program to create images and videos to give feedback, clear documentation or step-by-step instruction, Snagit is the right tool for you.
Snagit is available on Windows and Mac. You can get Snagit 14 days as free trial. Once you’re happy with the program, license price is $49.95 for lifetime to consider. To learn more detail about this software, please follow below links.
In today’s article, we’ll got you covered about the new features of Snagit 2019, released on October 23rd 2019 as usually, and some thoughts on this new version to see if it is worth to upgrade or buy (if you are a new user).
Let’s watch the introduction of Snagit 2019 in this video!
What’s new in Snagit 2019?
This is just a promotional video, don’t pay too much attention on it!
It’s undeniable that Snagit is a very powerful screen capturing tool in its industry. However, frankly speaking, I do not appreciate the new features in this release. They are expected to help users work faster with Combine Images, Favorite and Simplify tools. After the trial, I did not see much improvement in my working speed. Among these three features, Combine Images is the only thing you should take into your consideration of an upgrade (which cost you $24.95). It seems that TechSmith forced themselves to update a new version every year (Snagit 2018 was released October 24th 2018), which makes the development team feel a bit pressured. Similar to the way that smartphone makers are doing today. They often put a new cover, add some small features to the case and call them AMAZING improvements. Here are my detail review of these new features.
Combine Images
With this new feature, Snagit now lets you create a step-by-step image from multiple images that you captured with Snagit or existing one on your computer. As mentioned earlier, this is the the most useful feature in this new version. With your creativeness, you can create stunning images for social media as well as instructional document or info-graphic for your own uses.

Favorite tool
This new feature of Snagit allows you to add your frequent use tools into a folder, called Favorite. I am not sure if it really helps you increase your working speed or just another time consuming extra function. By the way, to add any tool into this folder, hit the star icon on top of the tool. It will appear in your Favorite tool. Vice versa, you can remove it by hitting the star icon again in the folder.

Simplify
I am a little confused about this new feature and its application at the first sight as it works similar to the Shape tools which already existed in Snagit editor. However, after a while using it, I found it really helpful when you want to cover most of parts in your image and replace them with new texts like what you see in below picture.

This feature is only useful when you want to hide almost every information in the image. This is a good way to drive your viewers attention to a specific part on your image. You should decide when to use this feature yourself, depending on your purposes.
Is It Worth To Upgrade?
So you’re clear about the new features of Snagit 2019, right? Let’s see if it is worth to upgrade or not. For your information, new license cost of Snagit 2019 remains the same with its previous version i.e $49.95 per life time. It’s a good news that TechSmith did not increase the price after these updates. Thanks TechSmith!

Hi Mike, Good to see you here! I agree. Not all updates worth!
Thanks for a good and easy to follow review. I still use snagit 10 all the time for a faster snag. I use 13 for the old jing feature. I find when they do they these “simplify” things it is not very intuitive and I am not thrilled every time they upgrade. hence I still use two old versions. I also use Camtasia and have a paid Screencast account, so I like techsmith very much, but not all their updates for snagit.
